RE: Blog About Small Trailer Modifications

At the risk of exposing myself to well-deserved ridicule, I have posted a list of about 20 or so modifications of my little 14 foot trailer (a Fun Finder). The blog has both pix and text:
Small Trailer Mods
Please try not to laugh too hard at the amateurishness of both the mods and the blog. (What the heck -- go ahead and laugh.) And if you have ideas for improvement on either front, please say so! I have little or no pride, as you will see if you visit the blog; I am always open to new ideas.
Thanks in advance!
Dan
Dan,
Great mods---and I enjoyed looking at the photos of your trips on your blog.
Could I encourage you to visit
http://www.lightweightcamperforum.com/
and post your mods and pix there? I know that they would be very well received.
Art
P.S. I think I'm going to steal your ideas on several of your mods for our tiny trailer.

RE: Disappointed!

Amazing!
All this venom, bile, and---in some cases---down right viciousness over what seems to me to be a fairly mild gripe!
Enjoy your subforum.

RE: Disappointed!

Well maybe that is why Art is so up set, maybe he feels inadequate about his size! :W
Don
I have heard from reliable sources that those who think "bigger is better" soon run out of fuel!
Art
P.S. And anyone who signs himself "Rubiranch" must be 'Wacko', no?

Disappointed!

I was really excited when I saw that we finally had been allocated a "small trailers" forum. That is, I was until I posted something that I thought was of interest to only small trailer owners and got a lot of replies from owners of big rigs. Then I discovered that our "small trailers" forum consists only of a virtual tag on our posts that allows us to see them all together.
Big deal!
Apparently we don't rate the same treatment that the popup owners, Class A owners, etc, do.
For that reason, I haven't been checking in a lot lately---and I think this is undoubtedly true for others as well.
What about you other small rig owners?

RE: Show Us Your Little Rig!

Here is my smaller rig. 1996 Fleetwood Terry 19 Foot (actually 20 Foot) and 2001 Ford Ranger. The Ranger has drug this trailer everywhere from the Rocky Mountains to the Coast, and from the Desert to the Plains and all in between.
Never any problems, but a whole lot of fun and zero payments.

Moparmaga2,
I checked your web site. Interesting and creative idea---living in a TT while at college. That way, when spring break rolls around, you can just hitch up and head for the beach, hunh?
Since you are in Lubbock, my guess is Texas Tech. Is that right? What are you majoring in?
Art
P.S. I assume your Ranger is a 6 cylinder. Is that right? I have a four cylinder Ranger, and my guess is that it wouldn't pull your rig.

RE: RV with Fireplace?

P.S. And did anyone notice my avatar at the bottom?
NO I was standing on the other side of the MH...
truthfully now, I thought that was a mural on the side of the MH...:B
you should have no trouble at all finding room in that monster...
you may want to mount the big screen on the outside back wall though...
JJBIrish,
I nearly died laughing reading your post! Actually, the little rig was road kill on the front of the MH, but the wind blew it around to the side.
Actually, when my wife told me about the fireplaces and home theaters, I visualized a fiver rolling down the road with a fieldstone fireplace, mahogany mantlepiece, and a brick chimney! But some of these little units I have seen in the pix on this thread do look awfully nice.
But, back to JJBIrishes comments: There is a door in the rear of my little TT, so the large screen wouldn't fit. Maybe I could have a solar panel on one side and the large screen on the other. Mount it on the roof and just flip it up sideways when its time to watch the world series.

RE: RV with Fireplace?

Okay, Guys,
Thanks for posting.
Now---the next question: how many of you who did respond feel that you are towing a "little travel trailer"?

RV with Fireplace?

My wife just told me that she had just seen an ad on tv for a "fiver" with:
a. Fireplace
b. Home Theater
Any comments?

RE: queen bed - 3000# max

Hi...just read the post about wanting a permanent queen bed. I'm looking for the same thing. I guess its called an empty nester. Queen bed, small table, bathroom with shower & sink. Kitchen with the usual. But I'd like to be able to pull with my mini van which has a towing capacity of 3500lbs. I also do not really want any slides or pull out beds (had enough of that with the pop up). Is this just a dream or could I actually find it. With gas going up up up,,,,,you would think the mfg could make one in order for us poor folks to be able to keep camping and not have to do it in our backyard due to rising gas cost.
MaryJo,
I wonder what minivan you are using?
We have a Toyota Sienna which we love---and this is the reason we have a small rig. It, too, is rated for 3500 pounds gross trailer weight and---with my weight distribution hitch---it will take up to 550 pounds tongue weight (300 pounds without).

RE: Show Us Your Little Rig!

Sunny1,
Now that's a nice little rig!
My wife and I looked at one. Thought it was really nice, but the bathroom had only a partial wall. I'd be interested in knowing what you think of this issue?
And what is the weight? (And the tongue weight) of your little guy?
Best,
Art
P.S. And what is your two vehicle?

RE: Show Us Your Little Rig!

This isn't micro but it's 18ft and has everything. Perfect size for boondocking. Easy to get in and out and turn around.

What a swell looking little rig, gtla9111!
At first, I thought it had a brick skirt, but then I see that this is a part of your home landscaping!
I think you are in a swell area in Mexico, no? It's been a long, long time since I have been in Mexico, but I recall Monterrey as being a very scenic area.
Where do you go camping?

RE: Show Us Your Little Rig!

I wouldn't call it a TT, but it is small! This is my Dad's Little Guy 5 Wide Teardrop. He bought it to go camping with us.

Hi, Lovedays,
Nice little rig!
I saw one of these in Silver Falls State Park here in Oregon a week or so ago. They guy with it had something that looked like a tent fly over it at night. Do you have any idea why he would do that?
Thanks.

RE: lets share what we have in small TT

Glad to see all you folks who either were already owners of small rigs or decided to "downsize."
I think that with the price of gas escalating and our economy in bad shape, this is the right decision to make.
"Small" can be "Beautiful," indeed!

Gray Water Disposal?

I wonder what you other folks with small tt's do for gray water disposal. We don't have a gray water tank and used to use a 25 gallon or so "blue boy" external tank. But it was unwieldy, weighed a great deal, and was hard to handle.
Someone on another forum, however, mentioned that they use a smaller 5 gallon container and just empty it more frequently.
My wife and I tried this on our last outing and it seems to work very well. We bought a 5 gallon (kerosene) blue container from Wally World and used it. I emptied it each day, and it seemed to work very well.
I'd be interested in what you guys do.

Show Us Your Little Rig!

Here's a picture of ours:
http://www.engr.sjsu.edu/adavis/Pico.jpg height=640 width=400
It's called a Summit Weekend Refuge, originally made in Portland, Oregon, but apparently they are out of business now. The current Taylor Coaches of Canada are very similar.
How about showing us a pic of your own "lil rig"?
Best,
Art
P.S. My wife and I are both retired electrical engineers---and that's the source of the name "Pico": Pico stands for "picofarad," a very small unit of capacitance---and it has a very small capacity

RE: Small Trailer Forum?

Well,
The question is---just what constitutes a double post? If I post a question about gensets on the Tech Issues forum and then come onto this forum and repeat it, that's clearly a double post. But saying, "Hey, you guys! Have you checked the doings over on the XXX forum?" Come on, now. If I have understood the ban correctly, it is to prevent massive duplication of postings. But I wasn't inviting anyone to respond on the other two forums---just to come over here and have a look.
And the idea of folks stalking others, following them around to see what they are posting and where is kinda' scary.
As I said, I have no desire to be contentious, but it seems to me that there is a bias against small trailers here, admitted or not.
Where should I have orginated this post so that it would have been visible to all those who have small trailers and/or are interested in them? Clearly, someone who signs himself something like "Gear-Jammin' John" won't be too interested.
Best,
Art
